My friend Kevin and I have been collecting Red wine from Shaw Vineyards on Seneca Lake since they opened. We feel that Steve Shaw's wines are exceptional and are great examples of what can be done with Red wine, even in a cold climate like the Finger Lakes. So every now and then, Kevin and I dust off our bottles of Shaw and do a vertical tasting to see how they are holding up. Last weekend, we tasted Shaw Cabernet Sauvignon vintages from 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2011. We were just amazed at these wines, with the 2007 (17 year old Finger Lakes Red!) still showing beautiful dark cherry fruit, still maintaining a solid acid and tann

The owner Rich Labbe tells us that they are renovating the old Woodbury Winery building along Route 14 in front of the former Missick Cellars/Villa Bellangelo facility to be their newest permanent location, in addition to their original location in Hammondsport on Route 54. We were very impressed with the quality of the beers, very smooth, flavorful and balanced, with the Watermelon Wheat and Honey Wheat beers being standouts.
